Years ago, when I was home raising my 5 I did a lot of knitting and crewel embroidery. The one I will show you was a pillow and the material was kinda like linen. It was done in 1976 and the background material was just falling apart. I salvaged the crewel work and put it in an embroidery hoop. Does anyone know of a spray I can use on it to prevent it from falling apart? Any help would be gratefully appreciated
Sorry, can't help you there, hope someone knows the answer!
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty! Sorry I don't know how to save it either
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Kaye. Would starching it real heavily work? Or put some iron on stabilizer on the back.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a clue but Linda's idea of the stabilizer seems logical. It seems that would preserve the stitches even if the rest of the backgound falls apart.
ReplyDeleteKaye, Not sure of any spray that will help. I would try an iron on stabilizer as Linda mentioned, perhaps a lightweight fusible interfacing. I can help you with good wishes for your birthday!! Hope you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely lovely!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous! I can't help you with the question, but a stabilize sounds logical!

I suggest using a stablizer. That's it. Some chemicals aren't good for threads or fabrics that are aged. Just like, I vacuum my real old quilts. No launder or water with any kind of soap or chemicals. You could always check with a university in the textiles dept.
