Emily's Birthday

Emily was 2 this week. We rescued her from the SPCA in January, and she is a great pet and friend. She is a Lab/Border Collie Mix and boy does she like to run. When we first got her she escaped 4 times and we had the neighborhood trying to get her back. She just loves to run free and one time went in the new man made pond in the new section of Lakeside. I posted on Brandons Blog that we have cake on our Birthday and Em is no different. Patty got the cake and goodies from Doggies at the Beach that boards and sits the dogs. This past week they took her out on the boat and on to the sand bar, she had a ball swimming and chasing the waves. To be safe we had a long rope tied to her, just in case she didn't want to get back in the boat. She was a good girl so will go out again!!!!

B irds Nest

I don't post everyday and here I am doing 2 in 1 day. I just wanted to share this with you. We have a golf cart that we use to go to the pool, for the mail, ride around the neighborhood and just about anything we want. Kids have to be 15 to drive solo and get a permit from the office. Ours is electric and we use it a lot. Well it rained and water collected in the rear of the roof in the canvas extension, To our surprise and amazement we found squatters in the folded extension. Thank goodness when we went to let water out of it we did not disturb the nest as it has a few babie eggs in it. We don't know what kind of bird but she must like golf. We had nest's this year in my coleous plant and in my flowering tree on side of the house, but our GOLF CART ???????

Phyllis and I

They did it! Phyllis and Joe are coming, they bought a house here where I live about a block away. I am soooooo Happy, she and I have been friends for over 50 yrs and her hubby Joe and my hubby Larry were firefighters together. Our sons became best friends and played football and ice hockey together. They will be here around the middle of August. She absolutely loved the I Love Lucy quilt that I made her for her Birthday. I can't wait for my friends here to meet them.

My First Quilt & My Most Recent

My very first quilt was done in my Lakeside Ladies Class. It is an Eleanor Burns pattern and we did one block at a time. Each one was to teach us the different kinds of blocks and introduced us to applique. I had it quilted by Sharon Jobin from our Quilt Guild, who does beautiful work (click to enlarge picture). The next one I fin ished yesterday. My Friend Phyllis from NY is coming down tomorrow to look for a house where I live & tomorrow is her birthday. She and I have been friends for over 50 years and she is just a warm and wonderful person. I picked the I Love Lucy Panel for her several months ago. When I saw it I thought, that's for Phyllis. Not only does she Love Lucy but several years ago in Universal Studios in Fla she was picked to do a skit and it was the very same one. I wasn't there but her Hubby told us the audience went wild she was so good, as good as Lucy was in the original show. It was an easy one to do and I was able to quilt it myself. Its definately not my best work but it is my most recent

Nana's Hydrangea

This beautiful Hydrangea has a long history. My Mom, affectionately called Nana T passed from this earth 15 years ago. At her viewing my Brother in Law's office send a large wooden basket with 4 plants in it. We are 4 Sisters and decided to each take one home to plant. This all happened in NY. I was the only one that planted mine and the next year I got beautiful blooms, pink in color. The next few years it grew slowly but continued to bloom, then about 2 years before we moved here it stopped blooming but came back each year, luscious green foliage, no flowers. When we were packing to move I told my Hubby, I'll leave my lilacs and my pom pom bush and all my plants, but wanted to take my Nana T plant. He carefully dug it up and put roots w/dirt in a large tub. When we got to Pot Nets it had not yet been landscaped, so it sat outside for a couple of weeks. When the landscapers came to discuss plants etc he spotted the hydrangea and asked about it. I told him the history of the plant and what it meant to me. He asked, do you cut it back? I answered yes and he told me that's why it stopped blooming , they are not supposed to be cut back each year. He asked me if I would let him find its spot. It's at the right front corner of the house and look how beautiful and full it is. Of the 4 mine is the only one still alive. The color has changed due to the change of soil but its fine, purple is my favorite color!

This You Have To See

Most people Love to go fishing and enjoy the sunshine on the water, I haven't because of my fear of water. In the 7 years we have the Pontoon Boat I have been on the Boat maybe 6 or 7 times and that was usually with company. Today I decided,we are so fortunate to live here and there is so much enjoyment on the boat, that I was going to overcome this fear. It was a beautiful day for boating so off we went. I put on my Mae West and I was ready. Poppa Doo was the pilot and does a great job. Brandon, Patricia and Katie were up front and we rode out to The Indian River bridge. Boat was rocking and rolling as it was a little windy and lots of boats moving around to make waves. Katie puts her own worm on the hook. Brandon was the only person to get a flounder but it wasn't a keeper. Has to be 18 1/2 in. I tried to do some hand sewing but no dice, its like reading in a car so I just relaxed and enjoyed the scenery and along came a bunch of Dolphins, so beautiful, graceful and exciting. We couldn't get a good picture but enjoyed the show they put on. We were out for about 3 hours and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will go again, during the week its not so crowded, but all in all it was a wonderful day

Design Gives Back

Kelee has a sponsor that will donate $2,ooo if we decorate 150 scarves. This money is for abandoned pets and pets whose owners can no longer feed and take care of them. We had fun and the money is going to a worthwhile project. In the picture are 3 gals from our Lakeside Ladies Quilt Group. L-R, Kaye (me) sitting, Pat (ALittle of This and a Little of Pat) and our friend Linda (not a blogger yet, but we are working on her). My dog Emily wasn't too happy posing for the picture but I got it. Pats blog probably has pictures of her dog Pepi and Linda's greyhound Chatsworth or as we call him Chatty.
