Winter Wonderland

Can you imagine! Snow from the North down to the Deep south, snow in towns that seldom see any snow, snow snow snow. Here in Delaware we had some snow on Christmas Day and it was so festive. It started again at about 5 am and after 12 hrs we have 12 and 1/2 inches. It doesn't show any sign of stopping either. I just pray we don't have any power outage, I HATE TO BE COLD! Its better than where we came from in NY, their forcast is for 1 to 2 feet, now those days I don't miss. Christmas here was wonderful. Larrys siatica is easing up and the MRI of the tumor shows it has shrunk significately and the mid line brain shift has gone back to normal. The surgery couldn't remove all the tumor as it was too dangerous. Radiation and chemo sure did the trick. It was by far the best gift we could have gotten. Thank you all for your prayers and Thank You God for listening. I wish for all of you a Happy and healthy New Year. Sorry no pictures, having a slight camera problem, hope its fixed soon

We sure had a busy Thanksgiving week end. Thanksgiving was wonderful, Turkey was delicious and the desserts, oh MY. On saturday we celebrated my GD Katie/s Birthday, she will bne 10 on Dec 4th and my GS Erik will be 11 on Dec 3rd. We had two cakes and each blew out their own candles, it was fun. First Picture is Erik, Katie and Eriks dog Snoopy Brandon is holding the cake. The 3 Muskateers next. Erik and my DTR Kathy and Katie with her Mom Pattie and brother Brandon. I messed the order of the pictures, the one of Pattie and the 2 kids belongs at the end.

Brian & Jessicas Wedding

The Wedding was held in a Gazebo in Sterling Park in Virginia. The Brides Grandfather married them and it was a beautiful ceremony. Weather was ideal and reception was right there in a Lovely old Building. My sister Pat and her hubby Frank,Parents of Brian. About 1/2 hour before the Wedding this handsome Gentleman played the Bagpipes. He was there till end of the reception. It was awesome, and so beautiful to hear "Here comes the Bride" done by the bagpipes. Pictures are in reverse order, i have to learn how to do them better. Last but certainally not least is Larry and I with my nephew David. He lives in Texas and it was so good to see him and my sister Peggy as we dont get to see them often

Sorry its taken so long to write about the wedding, but we've had a really bad week. My poor hubby had his brain surgery, chemo and radiation and came through all of it with flying colors. Everyone especially his Doctors were amazed b y his strength and attitude., Then his back startred up again, He has been in excrusating pain all week. Pain starts in lower back and then down the leg. Went to back specialist, had a MRI and x ray. He haS SPINAL STENOSIS, scar tissue from back surgery in the 1990's. deteriating discs etc. He went yesterday for pain management shots and so far it hasn't helped. I'm at a loss what to do next. Please pray for him and that he gets relief.Pain pills don't help either.

Great time coming up! We are going to Virginia for my nephews wedding. We leave tomorrow and will be home on Sunday. 4 of my 5 "kids" will be there. Son # 3 Skip will not be there as he just started a new job after being out of work for 9 months. All my sisters will be together (4 of us.) That doesn't happen often as Peg, the "Baby" lives in Texas. I just made and froze 2 BIG trays of Manicotti for the rehersal dinner on Thurs nite. Hope to get lots of pictures to share with you all next week. Have a great weekend, think of me as we p a r t y!

Katie Wins

Our local Food Lion had a Back to School coloring contest and our Katie won first prize! She used colored pencils instead of crayons and did an awesome job. The prize was a very nice and sturdy blue & white back pack filled with all kinds of school supplies paper, pencils, glue, b&w composition books,construction paper, crayons, even 3 boxes of tissues and hand sanitizer! The poster for the contest was hanging from the ceiling so it was hard to get a good picture of it. She was so excited when the store called. Thank You Food Lion for sponsoring the contest and thanks for being such a community oriented store.

Radiation is over

Well,its over and Larry did great. He is a real positive person, and had a good time kidding with the tecs and his DR who is a woman. While getting the radiation he got chemo by pills. He has been blessed, had no sickness, no reaction to anything, just lost a bit of hair. He looks and feels great. In the picture l to r-- Michelle one of the tecs, Larry and Dr. Mills. Lucky Guy!!!!!

Getting Ready for Halloween

My son Larry from Virginia was here for Labor Day weekend. As he left he said, Mom you're slipping, its time for your Halloween Decoratioins. He's right, but we have had so much going on with DR's & treatments and my knees are giving me pain but I'll get it done! Here are 2 of the wall hangings I made for my grandkids. The first day of school, so exciting. Seeing old friends, making new friends and a New Teacher or Teachers. Brandon turned 14 in July and is a freshman in High School. He has a full schedule with 3 Honors classes. Hes a real good student and a very nice Young Man. His siaster Katie will be 10 in Dec and she is in 4th Grade. She also is an excellent student and is in the excel program. My Daughter spent a small fortune on school supplies. The back packs were FILLED and oh so heavy. Good thing most of it stays in school. They both have no homework for this week, then it starts.Do you remember your first day of the school year? I do and always looked forward to it. WOW. It was a Big Wave

This couple went out for a leisurely afternoon of fishing and enjoying the bay and the sun. I guess they were a little too close to the Coast Guard Station area. There are no signs to stay away and a lot of people go in that area. A large CG boat came in. a bit fast I might say, caused a huge wave that actually destroyed the Pontoon. The force of the wave knocked off one of the pontoons and the water almost sank the Pontoon. Luckily only the boat was injured, the people were shook up but fine. Certainally wasn't the afternoon they had hoped for!

Softball World Series

This past week has been so busy with softball. Delaware was host to the Girls softball World Series for girls 13 --17. What exciting ball playing and talent, it was won yesterday by San Antonio Texas girls. My Grandaughter Katie who is 9 played in the small fry division for 9 & 10 year olds. They were in trhe finals on Friday nite and lost to Laurel Del, 13--9. The locals officals and workers are to be commended for the class act they put on. It was hours of work preparing and Delaware indeed should be proud of them. Started on Sunday and ran thru yesterday and the championship was televised on ESPN. Congratulations to all the teams who participated, you are all winners!!!!!!

Well, thank goodness its a tad cooler this week, not so much heavy humidity. The garden is doing great, but all the tomatoes are still green. They'll probably all get red together. We have eaten delicious zucchine and cucumbers and hopefully the tomatoes soon. I almost forgot the green peppers look good too.

I really need some help. My Grandson Brandon is a very dedicated and enthusiatic Boy Scout. He has started working toward getting his Eagle Scout Badge which is the highest ranking badge he can attain. It takes a long time and a lot of hard work but I have no doubt that he will make it. Last year when our Lakeside Ladies went on our retreat to Lancaster PA I found this awesome fabric and need your help!!!! I don't have a pattern to make a Quilt for the Eagle milestone and would surely appreciate any help or suggestions you may have for me. Thank You

A couple of weeks ago Linda dropped her pins and they were in a pile and I guessed 174 and was the closest to the actual number of 166. She sent me some great fat quarters, and was I happy as I have no fruits or veggies in my stash. She sent garlic in a brown and white coloring,bunches of green grapes, red cherry peppers, green peas and an adorable fat quarter of Ladies hats or should I say chapeaus. It was a real lucky guess for me, Thanks a lot Linda, I Love them all

Block # 11

11 down and 1 to go! I can't believe we are almost finished with the Moose on the Porch Quilt Blocks. The next block will be in 2 weeks and then the instructions about putting it together. I am very pleased with my Jelly Roll, all the strips are awesome and look well together. I saved all the instruction sheets as I will probably do it again.

Its hard to believe we are up to block 10 in our Jelly Roll Sample Quilt Along. Each block is from a different designer and we are supposed to make the blocks all from the same Jelly Roll. I have really enjoyed this project and will be sad when its finished.

Brandons Birthday

Brandon was 14 on Thurs, July 8th. He was so excited because being 14 allows him to get an ID and drive the Golf Cart without an adult. He knows that if he abuses the privelege or breaks the community rules, he loses it. He had two cakes, one his Mom got and my friend Phyllis made him a chocolate, his favorite. The 1st picture is the store cake, 2nd the home made, next his Mom Patricia and his sister Katie and then Aunt Kathy and his cousin Erik. He enjoyed it all.

The Ladies of Lakeside celebrate our Birthdays on one Day. We go to Lunch, eat great food, chat and then we each get a gift. We buy one gift, number them and then pick a number. This year I got an adorable apple basket and inside was 4 fat quarters in red, white and blue. I Love my gift, Thanks to whoever brought it. Next time we go to lunch at Baywood I will remember to take pictures of the Restaurant. Its on the Golf Course. Its decorated very plush and the prices are reasonable. In addition we get a 25% discount on our bill because we are residents of Pots Nets. How cool is that?

This is the runner that Pat showed us at our last Ladies of the Lake meeting. It was dobe with 1 1/2 in strips and went together in no time' Our Guild has a brown paper bag swap. Put 4 fat quarters in the bag with your name inside. Leave your bag and take one bag. Using that material and some of yours if you want, make something out of it. My Flip Flops

I really like flip flops, but unfortunately cannot wear them anymore. Today they come in all colors, with bling, in gold,silver and all other colors. They have flowers, interchangeable straps and even teeny tiny ones for toddlers. The sports co's make them for boys and men ( NIKE etc)snd young girls have them in all colors to match their outfits. Its hard to believe that we have finished 9 blocks already. I've posted very little the past few weeks, I've had a lot on my mind. My DH has a brain tumor and we have finally gotten to the point were he will start his radiation and chemo. He had the surgery at Johns Hopkins but will have all the treatments here in Delaware. He is fortunate in that he takes the chemo by pill. He is a very strong person and is ready for the fight. Back to the blocks, so far I have just used the Jelly Roll and its workiung out fine. I can't wait to get it all together, its been a fun project with a new block to do every 2 weeks.

My BOARDWALK

I am sorry I forgot to take a before picture, the walkway was small dark red stone with 18" round red pavers. The stones were sooo annoying, always being kicked up and on the grass. It was difficult for mowing and just was not very attractive. Larry always wanted to change it but other things needed to be done. Our middle son Larry who lives in Virginia came up Memorial Day Weekend with his son Anthony and his friend Shaun to do a new walk. My daughter Patricia shoveled and picked up the gravel, about 50 feet, and redistributed it in the back yard along with the round pavers. She really worked hard and did a great job so when the boys came it was ready for them. 4 trips to Home Depot for the wood, 2 and 1/2 days work and I have my very own "Boardwalk" Brandon was a big help and is learning from his Uncle as he did from his Dad. It makes such a big difference, brightens up the whole entrance, so neat and trim. Thanks Guys you did an awesome job and I really appreciate it.

A Long Two Weeks

I'm back! Sure has been a long two weeks. My hubby's surgery on the 14th went extremely well. It helps that he had an awesome Dr--Michael Lim. Surgery on Fri, home on Sun. That was scary. Larry is amazing and has recouperated very well, chomping at the bit to drive, be independent etc. Keep your fingers crossed, we should get biopsy report today

Tue.sday I slipped on some water that was on my wooden floor, did a few stumbles and hit my back on my wood hutch. Ouch, I couldnt get up. Called for help, but no one knew how to get me up without hurting me more. I was soooo embarassed they had to call 911 to help. They had me up in a jiffy. I have two broken ribs on right side, just below the wing on my back. They do nothing for it, it must heal by itself. Boy it takes a long time. I have been reading posts but it has been hard to reach and type, but I am better. Missed talking to you all, but hopefully life calms down a bit

Surgery today

Thank You to all of you that prayed for Larry and my family. Surgery was this morning and all went well. Dr Lim found no surprises and he will be fine. Bi opsies take 1 to 2 weeks. He woke in ICU about 5 1/2 hrs after surgery was started. Looked good, color was rosy and all his tests went well. Tested his strength arms & legs, reflexes, memory and motor skills and he passed with flying colors. If he stays as good , Larry will go to a regular room tomorrow around noon and come home Sunday nite. Wow, how scary in and out, and I have to become Nurse Cratchette!!! LOL

Prayers Needed

I've posted very little since mid March as that was when we found out DH Larry has a brain tumor. He has no physical signs, no headaches, no bleeds, it was found when he had an MRI for something else. He has had some more tests at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and will have surgery there either this coming Friday the 14th or the 17th or 18th. We are waiting for a time. I have a sister that lives close by and she will stay in Baltimore with me and all 5 of our children will be there. I have a large family and a great support system. I also have very dear Friends right here in our community. You my wonderful blog friends I ask to pray for him as he is in Gods hands. I will let you know as soon as I am able.

AGAIN!!!!!!

Look back 2 posts to read about my dtr's dog Snoopy and his broken leg (right front). 12 days ago he had cast off and was back to normal. I don't have new pictures but he broke or should I say has a hairline fracture of the right rear paw. They have a picture window with a low seat and Snoopy loves it there. He sits there to watch the squirrels, rabbits and birds. Getting down he hurt the leg. This time he cannot adapt and get around, its really sad, another cast, and poor Kathy had to shell out another $450.00. Must have very brittle bones

Beautiful old Hankies

A while back I think either Sandy or Linda were blogging about old hankies. It reminded me of mine but I didn't remember where they were. Looking for something else I found them. The 4 colorful edges, hand croched ones were done by my great Grandmother, Granny Morris. She used to sit with an old small crochet hook and crochet the edges all the time. As a little girl I was fascinated watching her, but I never did learn how to do it. Remember they are over 50 years old. As a teenager I was a Hairdresser and we wore uniform dresses, never pants. I always had a pretty hankie in my lapel pocket and customers would give me them as gifts, bring me one from vacation and I started a collection. I had special colorful ones for Christmas, Easter, Fall, Spring. I felt they dressed up the drab white uniform. I have 3 sisters so I will give each of them 1 of Grannies and the others give one to my dtrs, dils, my GD Katie and for each of my nieces. Hopefully they will treasure them as much as I do

Snoopy, His Accident

Snoopy is a cute little Beagle/Jack Russell mix that my dtr and her family bought in January. He now weighs about 10-12 lbs and is so lovable and adorable. They all live in NJ and when they come to visit Snoopy and our 70 lb black lab, Emily, get along just great. About 4 weeks ago my sil and grandson Erik were taking Snoopy to the park to run. Frank (sil) picked him up to carry him across the road and Snoopy wiggled and jumped out of Franks arms and got hit by a car. It was terrible and so traumatic for Erik to see. They rushed him to the vets, took x rays and determined his only injury was his right paw that was broken. They took care of it and put on a splint. He was in pain for about 1- 1 1/2 days, then he adjusted really well, Went back to vet in a week, he sent them to a specialist who said he needs surgery as the break is in a joint ( like our elbow). Cost $2,500 for starters. My dtr was shocked and explained they really cant afford that, what happens if no surgery? He said he would have a limp and get arthiritis as he gets older. It has already cost close to 800. So, they take him every week to vet to have splint changed and checked. You should see him in action! Runs, jumps up on window shelf and is just comical. Hopefully he will be fine.

Cream and Green Swap

I didn't get it finished for St Patty's Day, but I'll have it for next year! This was the swap from Pat Casadei. Twelve of us picked a block and cut the pieces for each block and then they went into a zip loc bag. When we got them they were all cut and ready to sew. It was fun and I enjoyed all the different color combos. I am not sure what color to sash it with. Maybe a darker green will pull it all together, a cream or even a black. Any other ideas?

My Easter Goodies

Since Easter is only 9 days away I thought I would show some of my decorations. The basket of bunnies and chicks were my Daughters and I just save them. Does anyone remember the battery operated Bunny on Skates? We had one, can't find it. The egg tree is made from real egg shells. I remember blowing the egg out of the shell and then pasting the material, lace and ribbons on. I am amazed they are still in one piece, as I made them in the 80's. The pussy willows they are hanging on are a bit skimpy this year. The egg plate with the chick on top has all of our names and is our centerpiece when the eggs are colored. That was one of the first pieces I painted in the 70's. The bunny w/fancy hat is shaker wood boxes from Michaels, painted with sponge brush. The top 2 are my favorites that I painted in 1978. Mr and Mrs and the purple candy dish. I treat the with loving care and wrap them all with bubble wrap for next year. Hope that you enjoyed seeing my handi work all done before I was bitten by the Quilting Bug!!

Brandons Surgery

Brandon is starting to relax after seeing the DR and the anasteologist and having everything explained to him. He was cool with it all, just anxious to get it done and over with. The top picture was as he left, clowning around. It all took about 45 minutes and Dr came and told us all went well. He removed tonsils & adenoids and put tubes in both ears. This is the 3rd time for the tubes. Dr said he would have a rough day, a lot of pain as he is more like an adult in size than a child . He has pain meds but it was still a rough day. He is now sleeping and has been for a couple of hours . No school or strenous activity for 2 weeks and he must wear tubes in his ears when showering or swimming. Naturally soft foods as tolerated. Thanks for your well wishes

Brandons Surgery

Up bright and early as I am going with my dtr Pattie to take my gs Brandon to the hospital. He is almost 14 and still having trouble with his ears. He has had tubes put in 3 or 4 times. The ENT Doctor is taking out his tonsils and adenoids and putting in tubes again. Bring on the broth, choc pudding, jello etc. He is upset not about the surgery but the fact that his first school track meet was postponed from yesterday to Friday, so now he can't go.

Sure sign of Spring!!!!

Its not spring till Ritas W@ater Ice opens. Its actually Italian Ice in all yummy flavors. On op ening day they give free cups of ice. Its not a little skimpy cup but a 6-8 oz cup. They make Misto's and blendinis, Gelatis and regular soft serve. We were probably one of the few paying customers as my DH and, I had to have our favorites--Gelatis. He absolutely loves the Mango and I like to try all different flavoras. Yesterdeay I had Black Cherry. Its ice, soft serve, ice again and soft serve again. I have to limit myself to once a week or I could really have one every day. Good thing they close in the Winter. Another week or so its to the boardwalk for Thrashers fries, absolutely the best. Even the seagulls like them, you have to be careful as they sometimes swoop down and snip one away. Are we easily amused or what?????

Grandaughter Katie is in front and GS brandon right rear. After being delayed twice because of snow, they finally had the plunge to raise money for special olympics. Over 2,500 people participated and raised over $500,000. The water temp was 42D and this was the 19th year the Plunge has been held. Lots of fun for a great cause

Hopefully I can upload the pictures with my new card reader. Last Sat Mar 13th was my DH Birthday. This sure was a special one for him. He got to go on a Boy Scout Trip to the AF Base. They toured Air Force 2 wich is mostly used by VP Biden. His pilot is the Cub Scout leader for troop 105. MY GS, GD, dtr Patricia and DH left Delaware bright and early Sat am. My son Larry and GS Anthony who live in Reston VA met them at the entrance. Everyone had a great time. They saw a awesome slide show, toured the planes and then took pictures and interacted with the personnel

Learning this new laptop, but still having a problem with pictures. Can't figure how to get them from the camera and then how to retrieve them so I can post. I've been keeping busy and will show you pictures when I get the program going. Rain is forecast for the next couple of days, but I hope not too much. One of our main roads has had some water problems. The road itself is ok and passable but not so for the properties. Our Church has been closed for over a week as parking lot was under water and no way into the CHURCH. There is a woman who runs a kennell down the road that has not been able to open as her pens and access road is under water also. My Doctor is in a new building ( opened in end of last year )and the water is almost up to the rear of the building. Lots of problems because of all the snow we had. Hurry up SPRING!!!!

My Hummell Crewel Work

Years ago, when I was home raising my 5 I did a lot of knitting and crewel embroidery. The one I will show you was a pillow and the material was kinda like linen. It was done in 1976 and the background material was just falling apart. I salvaged the crewel work and put it in an embroidery hoop. Does anyone know of a spray I can use on it to prevent it from falling apart? Any help would be gratefully appreciated

I haven't blogged for over a week, although I have been reading all my pals. I got a new laptop and it has taken a bit of time to navigateon it. I have tried and tried to use the built in mouse, no dice, I am much too slow on it so went back to the wireless mouse. That works so much better for me. I am also having difficulty finding all my pictures that I downloaded. For the past year I have used the Adobe program and it was user friendly. My son put all the things that I needed to save and transfer from the old computer to the laptop on an external hard drive.. Gary, Pat Casadei's dh, transferred the stuff and got me up and running. He was head of the computer dept at Rutgers College where he worked and he is sooooooo smart when it comes to the computers.I still have to play around with it and get comfortable with the pictures. Just wanted to touch base with you all, and let you know I haven't disappeared from the face of the earth!!!!! LOL Stay warm and have a great weekend. Hugs, Kaye

This past Monday, despite the snow and cold we Ladies of Lakeside had our bi-monthly meeting at Sherry's house. It was terrific to get out of the house, especially for my Quilting Sisters. Pat, ALittleofThisALittleofPat.blogspot.com, taught us how to do the Fractured Diamond, I brought my material and cut everything out and only did 2 samples so I could finish at home. I made 12 blocks, that will make a nice table runner. I am not sure how to put them together, therefore I am asking your advice, tan center that looks like a star or the other way--- 1 or 2. My Ray of Sunshine Today

Its been a blah kinda week, after so much of this snow it gets depressing, well today I got a Ray of Sunshine1, my package from Rachael in Canada arrived. It was her give-a-way and I was the Lucky winner. There is the beautiful Heart Quilt that I can use either as a wall hanging or on the table, she sent me the tea holder for your purse w/4 teabags inside, a $20.00 gift card from Hobby Lobby ( I am buying fusible batting with it)a box of chocolates, a magnetic pad and a Moda charm pack. I feel like its my Birthday instead of hers. Thanks again Rachael for your generosity and good taste.

OMG did we ever get the snow, the worst storm this area has had since the early 1900's. We tried to get ready for the snow, however I don't think anyone was ready for a 30+ hour without electricity and somewhere about 20 inches of the white stuff. Sure was difficult, and we couldn't go anywhere as it was a state of emergency and only essential, emergency cars were allowed on the roads. It just kept coming and coming and around 3 this past am it turned to rain and sleet and thats when we lost power. We are in the middle of 2 major roads. Rte 113 goes N and S from salisbury up to Wilmington and US 1 goes N and S from Ocean City Md to New Castle and the bridge to NJ. There were 7 fallen power lines/poles down on 113 and 3 on rte 1 near Rehoboth. What a disaster!! No sewing machine, no TV, no radio and no computer. Back to years gone by. Bless my daughter and my Grandson, they shoveled us out and also shoveled for 3 houses where the people were unable to do it. One was very elderly, one just had 2 knees replaced and one a widow with a bad back. I am real proud of them, it was not easy and they came home exhausted and soaked. Each took a quick hot shower while the hot water lasted and fell asleep. We had a gourmet dinner, soup and crackers. Lucky we have a gas stove so at least we could heat the soup. I hope the food in the freezer is okay as we didn't open it at all. We all went to bed at about 8:30. We had 4 blankets on our bed and Pat & 2 kids slept in the living room in sleeping bags. We have a fireplace but a limited amt of dry wood as we very seldom use it. That kept us warm for a bit.. Thank you God for keeping us safe and say a little prayer that the power stays on!!

Snow, Snow and more to come

Today is Feb 4th and we have just about dug out of the past week end storm. We had 12 inches and were we surprised as Delaware usually gets a dusting. We have lived here 7 years and this is by far the worst winter we've had here. Kids are loving it, no school Monday, 2 hr delay Tues., and no school on wednesday as roads were icy. Now this week end we have a forecast for a BLIZZARD- 18 to 24 inches. I tried for 3 days to buy a snow blower. tried in DE, NY NJ and VA. My dh has a pinched nerve in his lower back and a bone spur on the hip where he had the replacement so he cannot shovel or do any heavy work. My daughter and GS Brandon have been doing it but they cannot be here all the time with work and school. When its hot and humid in the summer I promise not to complain!!

Trunk Show

At our Quilt Guild this past Thurs. we had a very interesting speaker--Judy Gunter or maybe its Gunther. She is a very talented quilter and judges at shows and other places. Judy collects old Doll Quilts and her presentation was about the Presidents Ladies and some of their quilts. I don't think very many actually quilted them but did certainally collect them. She gave us a bit of history on them and their influence on their Husbands and the country when he served. I was particularly surprised at the wonderful condition the quilts were in. There was a small doll quilt made of cigar wraps or ties. They were similar to our selveges. The pictures I will post will be from the mid 1800's till the mid 1900's. I am sorry I did not write down all the info, but I did get some pictures

I had to have Pat show me how to do it and in the beginning I messed up a few but have gotten better. I am going to show my 5th picture. It was taken at Baywood Golf Course right down the road from us. Beautiful surroundings and yummy food. This was designed by Julie Weaver. The blocks are 12 x 12 and there are 6 of them. Finished top is 38 x 52. The instructions were very easy to follow and I am pleased with the results. The only problem I really have is I cannot go on the floor to make sure its straight and even with sandwiching and then pin. I have 2knees that will have to be replaced soon and arh ritis in my lower back. I do the best I can, but this I"ll need some help with. Anyone else that has the same problems, what do you do? Any hints, I would appreciate them

Our local Quilt Shop Serendipidy has several BOM she has offered. I choose the Butterfies, loved the colors. The pattern and kit come in the package. I have finished 3, got behind with the holidays. I went there the other day and got the next 4. The patterns are by Debra Gabel who designed and created them and the series is called Butterflies in Flight. I did a combination of hand and machine applique. I need lots of practice doing the applique but I am improving. She has a Quilt sample of the finished quilt in the shop and it is absolutely beautiful. Will keep you posted as I progress

I joined a no-sew block exchange with 11 other Lovely Ladies. We had to pick a block, complete 1 for ourself, cut out all the pieces for the other 11, put each in a baggie w/block name and send them to the moderator. She will then make 11 piles and send 1 pile of 11 to each of us. There is 1 stipulation, blocks have to be green w/ white or tan. Mine is all ready to go, so I thought I would show you before I sent them on their way. It should be a fun quilt and we can put it together at our leisure

I have a most generous dil and son. They sent our gifts down with my dtr Pattie when she went to NY to visit. OMG was I shocked when I opened the box! It was a pair of UGGS, the most warm and comfortable boots I have ever had on. Can't believe she went and bought these for me and they fit perfectly. They are made in Australia and should be worn without socks. You can have them on all day and when they come off your feet are not clammy and sweaty, just warm and toasty. Thank you both for such a generous and thoughtful gift

Last year a Blogging Friend Linda celebrated a very special Birthday. She wanted a "siggie block" quilt. 12 of us did it, we signed it and everyone did a great job.. This is my top, finished, still needs to be quilted and bound. Would love to do another, its so easy. The moderator keeps track of all the blocks. We each make 12, keep one and send the rest to the moderator. She collects all the blocks ,divided them into 11 groups, mail back each group and then we sew them together any way we desire.

Its been 51 great years since that day we vowed "till death do us part". So much has happened since that day, We have 5 wonderful children, 10 awesome grandchildren,old friends & new friends. Phyllis has been my friend since we were 15 years old and she recently moved here to Delaware. AND I have all you. My Dear Bloggers, this past year has been a blast. I have met and had so many of you become a daily part of my life and for that I thank You. We have had our ups and downs like everyone else, but we always weather the storm together. Home for Santa!

We made it home with absolutely no problem. 27 inches in Reston VA at my son's house and boy they were ready for it. It started to snow about 8:30 Fri nite and plows were out and waiting, the Dept of Public Works deserve a huge hug and the Thanks from all who were on the roads. It was the same in Maryland all the way into Delaware. The pictures are from my sons House, it was beautiful and it really feels like Christmas. Thanks to Our Lord and Our Guardian Angels for the safe ride home
The picture of Santa and Mrs Claus was taken at the Cracker Barrell thats on Rte 50 past the Bridge, opposite the outlets. It was the perfect ending to our trip.

White CHRISTMAS

Its a winter wonderland! Living in Delaware we see very little snow, but we traveled to my son's house in Virginia for his annual Christmas Party. I just didn't believe the weatherman when he forecast up to 2 feet, was I wrong. We woke this morning to 11 inches of the white stuff Its beautiful. Sorry I can't post the pictures we took, as I am using my sons laptop and I don't have the cables to hook up the camera. Katie and Brandon are so excited, they haven't seen this much snow in a good long time. Hope we make it home for Santa!!

Happy Birthday

My Baby is 40 to-day, yes Kathy is 40. Her birth was extra exciting as she and my nephew Kevin were born on the same day. My sister Pat and I were room-mates in the hospital, and the newspaper came to take our pictures and write a story about us. It helped that our Mom worker at the hospital. My 5 children were all born in the 60's--- 60, 62, 63, 66 and 69. I can't even begin to believe that my oldest will be 50 next year..Life has been very Good to us, Sure we have our aches and pains, who doesn't, but we have been Blessed many times over. My Grandson Nicholas was born on Christmas Day and this year will be 18. How cool is that??

Christmas Concert at Elementary School

You know its getting close to the big DAY when the school has its Christmas Concert. My Grandaughter Katie's school goes to 5th grade. Its a Great School and what Fantastick Teachers. The music teacher has been doing 2 concerts a year for 30 years. She is so talented and it shows in the children. Every year its different and every year the kids get better and better. This year was the story of Kids having a Pajama Party , and the theme is "Jamming in our Jammies" They all wore their P J's to scool along with their slippers and some had to bring their pillows They told the story and sang and danced and I"ll tell you they were great. Even the boys got into it. They sang traditional Christmas Carols and some cute dancing songs. I was fortunate to sit in the front row and had a birds eye view! Katie is in the front row with short blond hair and purple pj's and slippers

A Great Book for all Quilters

I have just finished reading " The Master Quilter " by Jennifer Chiaverini. It is the story about the making of Sylvia's Bridal Quilt. Pat Casadei has been busy making the blocks and I am busy reading about them. It is a great story with a bit of mystery in it, and talks about the friendship , creativity, challenges and dreams that Quilters have. There is a series of books Jennifer has written, the popular Elm Street Quilters series. I also have Circle of Quilters and The Christmas Quilt. There are 8 more books that I know of that will definately be on my list for SANTA. A good read for many of my fellow bloggers. ps: am having a problem with my computer and my camera, they are not getting along, so no new pictures till I can get them looked at

How many of you are going out shopping bright and early on "Black Friday"? I think the crowds will be less this year because of Swine and reg flus. This Turkey I made from a Pat Sloan pattern, isn't he just too cool? The wooden holder was made by an Amish gentleman. It was in the last Quilt shop we went to on our Lancaster trip. Our Lancaster Trip

Its hard to know what to tell you as Pat and Kathy both are blogging about our Great Trip. If its repitious, I am sorry. I will tell you about the evenings. Oh my Goodness were we having fun, just like a group of teenagers, silly and giggly. We decided to each take a silly picture. Here are a few--Sherry & her Sister Prue, Linda & Sherry goofing off and then there is Prue teaching us to cut out snowflakes. They are soo nice and easy when you know how. Last is Pat Casadei with her wee one. We had 3 teachers in the group, Pat, Prue and Kathy. She was a college professor. We tease her sometimes and call her Doc, but she is a great gal and a beautiful quilter.

Quilt Retreat

Sorry no pictures yes, had a bit of a camera problem, Oh Goodness- where do I begin? It was absolutely a great time. The girls couldn't believe it was the first time in 50 plus years of Marriage that I ever had a vacation away from DH. I was so happy to go as I have to use oxygen when I sleep and a walker to walk any distance and the girls were so good, took great care of me. I haven't walked so much in years but I managed to keep up..We went to a quilt shop after quilt shop and in between a Candy Factory and a pretzel factory and another quilt shop. We left in the mornings at around 9, shopped, had lunch, shopped and got home around 5. We had planned to eat all our meals out but by 5 were tired so we got take out and ate home. Pats daughter told her to eat something she had never eaten before and do some fun- silly things, well we sure took her advice. I had stuffed pepper soup and tasted sho fly pie. I ordered for dinner one nite that we did eat out stuffed cabbage. Speaking of cabbage, Pat bought a hugecabbage, about 15 lbs for 1.50. They had the largest califlower and broccoli almost as big for 1.00. Must be all that horse fertilizer. LOL. The highlight was seeing them plow the fields and watch the children walk to and from school with their Lunch pails. The one room school was down the road from us, We saw them at recess, and heard the bell call them back in. Most go to school till the age of 12 and then either work the farm or around the house. The entire Lancaster area is so clean, no litter and the sight of the farms at a distance is breath taking. Almost all of the shops that sell material also sell quilts. What an inspiration they are, prices run from around 400 to 900 on the average. Most of the ones for sale are done by Mother-Daughter teams. The reason for that is the stitches should be very much alike. I asked about the quilt bees and was told that was when they were making quilts for newly weds. Each new Bride gets 7 Quilts. I bough a couple of patterns that hopefully I can do. The prices were unbelievable! From 3.00 to maybe 6 or 7 dollars. A queen size backing piece of quality material was 24.00. The house we rented was so clean and spacious and lovely. It cost each of a a little over 90 dollars for a 3 nite stay. We were 6 but it holds 16 people. More tomorrow about our nightly activities and anything else I can think of that will interest you. One thing I will say, if you ever have the opportunity to go there GO. We decided to do it a couple of times a year, it was that wonderful

Lancaster Quilt Trip

I am so excited, I am all packed and ready to leave tomorrow morning for Lancaster for our Quilt "Retreat" as I refer to it. 6 of us ( 3 are bloggers, myself, Pat of A Little Bit of This and a Little Bit of Pat, and Cathy of Creative Urges) have rented a beautiful house. It is well furnished, and 4 of us have our own bedroom and the other two are sisters and will share a room. We will do no cooking, will eat out except for maybe breakfast. Besides sewing and shopping we may relax and read or play Dominos- Mexican Train or a couple of card games. We will do a lot of shopping that much I am sure of. Only thing we will be missing is a computer but be sure we will catch up when we get home Fri or Sat.. It will be great just to get away. We went to Quilt Guild today and they revealed our Secret Sisters. I said many times over the last year that I felt my Sister knows me because she got me such great gifts, but I had no clue who she was. I found out and was floored, she is my Pal and fellow Quilter, but best of all Friend. It is Pat Casadei ( Little Bit of Pat) How she pulled it off I have no clue as most times we rode together, but she sure hid it well. Thanks again Pat for your Generosity and thoughtfulness, most of all I so appreciate your friendship.

Halloween at our House

Boy oh boy, what a night for the Grandkids. The rain held off and they had a great nite "Trick or Treating" Katie was Vampira and looked so cute, Brandon was an ugly goulie. I have always enjoyed it and made many a costume for my kids and my nieces and nephews. Only about 6 kids came to the door. I was kinda disappointed as in NY we would get over 100. The gk went to 3 churches for Trunk or Trick. If you have never seen or heard of it, a group form a semi circle and open their trunks, or rear doors and thats all decorated with the candy ready for the kiddies. A lot of the people dress up and its a great time. Its safe and best of all the kids don't bother people who don't like Halloween. They got soooo much candy, I have never seen so much. Now its November!!! get ready for Thanksgiving, my how time fkies

A Lesson Learned

This is my disappearing 9 patch for Halloween. It is from a charm pack by Moda called Spook Tacular. I decided to stipple quilt it, now I haven't done too much of it, but said--give it a go, how bad can I do. Well did I learn a Lesson the hard way. I stippled and I stippled some more, and the runner can almost stand by itself LOL Next time I will remember that LESS IS BEST.

Lakeside Parade & Halloween Party for the KIDS

The weather co-operated and the rain held off till after all the festivities. It took place at "The Point" in our Bayside community. Its a lovely spot, right on the water and in the summer its where the weekly concerts are held. The Home Owners Assoc. puts it together for the kids. They have games, ex: hoola hoop on the pumpkin, pin the nose on the pumpkin etc. All children got a goody bag and after the games they had the parade. Soooo cute, even some of the animals got dressed up. The big surprise of the day---- our local Fire Company came with their New Fire Engines and gave all the kids ( adults too) a ride. It was really nice. The sun was out but it was really windy near the water, its such a beautiful place. Lots of benches to sit and relax on and just enjoy the Day. Its where most of the boats are docked and also where the beach is. We can use it at any time even though we live in Lakeside. Thats Katie dressed as Vampira and the last picture is DH Larry and our friend Joe (who with his wife Phyllis just moved down) posing and reminising about their days as Firefighters. Joe was a Captain and he and Larry have been friends for a long time. Joe hung up his golf shoes for a rest and they are having a ball fishing. Thats what retirement is all about, Right?

I thought you would like to see where we dock our Pontoon. In the first 3 pictures you can see the walking docks under water. You also can see right thru the pontoons. Picture 4 shows the water spilling out onto the parking lot. Picture 5 is our Bayside Beach, no sand to be seen, it looks like picnic tables in a pool. It has been raining everyday for over a week, pretty soon we will need water wings. Its not really a serious situation, just something to share. It is really nothing compared to the losses our friends in American Samoa have suffered and they have no where to go. I pray for them daily and hope they get the help they need soon. A lot of our wonderful Blogger friends have sent packages, but they need lots more. Please remember them in your prayers

Flu Shots

Its that time of year again. My DH and I both got our flu shot last week, the other for the swine flu hasn't arrived yet here in Delaware. Guess we got it just in time as my Grandson Brandon has been home sick all week. He went to Dr on Tues, its the reg flu, no strep. It knocked him for a loop. Boy was he upset that he had to miss school all week. The school has their work and homework online so he can somewhat keep up the work. Schools are being strict as well they should. I know its hard for working Moms or Dads, but one sick kid in school can infect many many more. Here he is looking better than he does this week

BLOCK SWAPS

I have had a great time being in a few block swaps. Its so interesting to see what ideas our Blogging friends have. I was also in a friendship bag swap. A small, cute little bag and so easy to do. I was late on sending the bag and I do apoligize for that. My dear Janome machine is yet again at the dealers being fixed. The purple is the one I did, the orange is the one my swap partner sent me!

Prayers for Barbara

Please say some prayers for our blogging friend Barbara of Bejeweled Quilts. We got word tonite that there was an earthquake and tsunami in Pago Pago, American Samoa where Barbara lives. We are praying for her safety. At this point in time there is no word of how bad it is but I am sure she is frightened beyond words, Her Hubby is away for his job and she doesn't like being alone, now this. I am hopeful electricity will be on and she can blog us. In the meantime please PRAY

Mr Peppers Farm

Took the Grandkids and we went to the local Farm to pick pumpkins and buy our fall mums. What a great time we had. We met Mr Peppers 8 yr old Grandaughter who greeted us and wanted to know if we had been there before, I told her Oh yes, for the past 6 years. She told us to make sure we checked the bottom of the pumpkins as all the rain we had caused a lot of rot. She was so cute and so smart. She collected the money and told us her Grandpa taught her all last winter. He sure did a great job. The small deco pumpkins were 50 cents each, the gourds 4 for 1.00, the hay bales 3.00, the straw bundles 4.00 and the biggg mums only 3.00. The corn maze was blown apart by the bad winds, but they were giving hay rides. Its a great place to visit and has become for us an annual part of the start of Fall

Halloween Block Swap

Back in July I joined a swap, had to make 24 Halloween Themed Blocks. 12 9 patch-same 2 materials 12 themed-mine was witches and each unfinished block was to be 12 1/2 in. My goodness people did a super job, I absolutely Love the ones I got back. Now comes the hard part-- how to put them together, make 1 large quilt, take 3 blocks and sash in between and make a wall hanging, make a table runner ? Any suggestions? The Janome Curse

That's right, now my machine has what we now refer to as the Janome curse. Anne from our Lakeside Ladies group was the first with a problem with a brand new machine. She hasn't been sewing on it since it was "fixed" as she had very serious shoulder surgery. Next was Pat, first in March and now again with her jumping and catching material in bobbib area, now mine again. I took it in the beginning of Augusy, it just stopped sewing although electric was definately on. The dealer told me it was the area across top of machine, as take up wheel wouldn't move. Service took machine and reported back problem was because I never had that part of machine serviced duh!!! no one told me about that. She said they were very kind and put in a new piece. August 2nd to yesterday Sept 22nd, exactly 49 days and I can't use it again. I personally think they must get seconds or else Janome just stinks, I am so frustrated at this point. Lucky for me Pat also has an older singer to lend me. It seems the older machines are more reliable. Our machines weren't cheap either, Pat's computerized model was about 1,100.00 and mine was about 600.00

School Sales

Do any of you have any feelings for or against the kids selling stuff for school. Myself I absolutely hate it! First week of school they come home with papers to sell magazines, cookie dough, and a whole lot of other stuff. They brain wash these kids with all the big prizes they can win--Wii games telescopes, microscopes, and a lot of other goodies. In todays economy neighbors sometimes can't make expenses never mind buy all this stuff from the kids. How many times can you ask a co-worker to buy? The kids that usually sell the most have parents who work in a large company and then that parent is obligated to buy a lot of stuff they don't use or need. If the schools need extre money for class trips or equipment for the playground, can't they just ask parents for a donation or have a community fund raising. Have a bazaar or a game day with parents, kids , teachers and invite the community. Do I sound like scrooge? I just am so aggrivated with all the selling. Then soccer sells and scouts and on and on and on. Tonite I am on my soapbox and thanks for listening!

Our Friday Nite Visit

Was a scarey one for sure. DH found out last week his back and leg pain is from a pinched nerve in the lower back. Its from arthritic spurs that came back from the surgery he had about 12 yrs ago. The only time the pain is relieved is when he sits or lies down. He is trying to be patient while waiting for an appointment to go for pain management therapy, but is getting impatient. The last 2 days he has seemed antsy but today he was extremely nauseas and dizzy and clammy, the same symptons he had before his quad by- pass several years ago. He had no pain, no chest pain but took nitro glycerin pills 1/2 hr apart. He didn't tell me and in the er he said I took them in case. A big no-no. He didn't put up too much a fuss when I called an ambulance. They did lots of blood work, chest and back x rays and several hours monitoring. Thank God all tests were good. After all was said and done he had 2 problems, The NITRO pills are for chest pain only and he has vertigo. For me it was really a scarey couple of hours but thank the Good Lord its not a serious or life threatening problem. Now he waits for the pain management! Keep your fingers crossed that that happens soon! Needless to say I haven't done much sewing, I can't seem to concentrate but I will be back!!!!

Ride with Pat

Took the ride this morning with Pat, I went mainly for moral support. The Janome dealer is very knowlegable but does a lot of double talking. I did not expect her to say to Pat the things she did. Pat was such a Lady, kept her cool and got her point across. The dealer acted like Pat didn't know what she was doing. She would say something and then the next sentence contradict herself. She implied that the machine was replaced once and there was nothing wrong with it. Thats a crock, as no one replaces something that expensive for no reason. Too bad Pat doesn't have the serial number of the first machine as the dealer said its for sale at the other store. Now both Pat and I are leary she is being truthful as the second machine didn't come in a sealed box. Its also strange that the problem happened the first time when the machine was 6 mos old and now 6 months later the 2nd machine is doing the same thing. Doesn't sound kosher to me. I think its now time we go over the dealers head and go to the head of Janome. What do you think?

My Oldest Grandson James

I never quite understood what kind of Doctor James was going to be or what research he was doing. He is in Grad school at Northwestern, just finishing his first year.His research study that he came up with is to see if bilingual Spanish-English speakers are better than monolingual English speakers at learning words in a third, made up language of his own design.He's had a lot of people respond so he's now busy looking at their data to see how well they learned. I find it fascinating, certainaly a lot deeper than anything I ever studied. Hopefully he will send me the results soon. Hope I didn't bore you all,( it has nothing to do with quilting ) but I think its quite interesting knowing James as I do. He is a very shy, quiet young man, very much the silent type and now he speaks in front of many, many Doctors, Professors etc. Amazing!
